November 29, 2010 Comparing and Scaling
Big Idea: Many important practical and mathematical applications involve comparing quantities of one kind or another; it is important to know which method to use and how we should use them.
Investigation 4 Essential Question: How can I use a unit rate to make a prediction?
Problem 4.2- Using Unit Rates
When Madeline and Luis compared the fuel economy of their new cars, they found these rates: Madeline's car=580 miles with 19 gallons of gas Luis's car= 452 miles with 15.5 gallons of gas
Use this information to answer the folowing questions. A) Unit rates: Madeline's car went 30.5 miles/gallon, and Luis's car went 29 miles/gallon. So Madeline went the most miles per gallon.
